About PermitPass

Free DMV Practice Test, Built by an Engineer

PermitPass exists for one reason: passing the DMV written permit exam shouldn't cost money or be locked behind English-only walls. Our practice tests cover all 50 US states in 13 languages — and they're free, forever.

Our mission

Every year, millions of people in the United States take the DMV written permit exam. For first-time drivers, recent immigrants, and anyone unfamiliar with local traffic laws, the test can be intimidating — and most existing study tools are either paywalled, ad-heavy, or only available in English. PermitPass closes that gap with a free, ad-free, multilingual practice platform that mirrors the real exam in every state.

How our questions are built

Each state's question bank is modeled after the official written exam topics published by that state's DMV (or equivalent agency). We cover traffic laws, road signs, right-of-way rules, safe driving practices, alcohol and drug laws, and state-specific regulations. Every question includes a detailed explanation so you learn the underlying rule, not just memorize the answer.

Translations are reviewed for terminology accuracy in driving and legal contexts. When state laws change, we update the corresponding questions across all 13 supported languages.
